Can CIFS browse over a WAN?

I have CIFS/9000 running locally and at a remote site. Locally, I can mount a remote share by \\remote1\share but I cannot see remote1 in my Network Neighborhood. I know what shares are there but others don't. What configuration changes do I need to do to make the remote site browsable from my local site.

TIA, Haitham

Re: Can CIFS browse over a WAN?

Hi

I solved this problem by adding a WINS server
on the WAN. All windows/Samba/CIFS clients
are registred on the wins server.
A client send a request to the wins server
instead of browse...
You need to configure a wins server, and to
modify clients configurations.

I think it may works...

Have a look to your WAN (router) configuration ,
perhaps you can solve your problem by routing
netbios protocol (138 and 139 ports). ???

Re: Can CIFS browse over a WAN?

Thanks Herve'. We don't have a WINS server. I was able to solve the problem by using the "remote announce" parameter in the smb.conf file on both servers.
