Can Surestore DLT80e (C5726A) be used on HP-UX?

Hi,

I bought a new Surestore DLT80e (C5726A) and installed into my K-class server but it can't work. I/O error occurred everytime when I issued "mt" or "tar" command. The tape drive is CLAIMED in "ioscan" and I connected it with a 68HD-50LD 3rd party scsi cable.

I wondered if DLT80e is supported on HP-UX. Please help.

Yep, it does. This *is* a 80e (C5726A). But be sure it is connected to a LVD SCSI (e.g SCSI C896 Fast Wide LVD) interface, unless you want to blow up the tape interface. SCSI C875 Fast Wide Differential or SCSI C875 Ultra Wide Single-Ended will not work!

Yes, it is supported on HPUX 11.0 (just made a config of an rp2400 server with a DLT80e tape drive). The SCSI cable you should use is a SCSI Cable 2m VHDTS68/HDTS68 LVD/SE ILT (part number C7541A). Did you run an 'insf -e' to create a device file. What is the outpout of 'ioscan -funC tape'?

Re: Can Surestore DLT80e (C5726A) be used on HP-UX?

Hi,

But I am connecting the DLT80e tape drive to:
28655A HP-PB SE SCSI-2 Centronics host adapter

and Ifound a doc that HP-PB bus which is not supported on DLT80e (or DLT8000) tape drive. I must use HP-HSC bus.

I am using HP-UX 10.20. Any patch to fix this problem? If not, what HP-HSC bus convertor and scsi card should I buy?

Also, can I use 28696A - Wide SCSI or GSC add-on Fast/Wide SCSI Interface instead?

Below is the ioscan:

Re: Can Surestore DLT80e (C5726A) be used on HP-UX?

As my esteemed colleagues noted, you need a LVD SCSI card to make this work.

Here is a link to a part that should work with oyur machine.

Here is a thread to seems to provide you the way to obtain such a card.

Re: Can Surestore DLT80e (C5726A) be used on HP-UX?

Hi,

I have tried to disconnect DLT80e (SE/LVD Wide Ultra SCSI-2 interface) from the SE SCSI interface (which is not supoported on HP-PB Bus) and connected it to the HP-HSC FW interface card on Core IO Card of K220 server running HP-UX 10.20 as follows:

ext_bus 3 10/8 c720 CLAIMED INTERFACE GSC add-on Fast/Wide SCSI Interface

But it couldn't even see the DLT80e in ioscan after reboot when the latest stape & tape2 cummulative patch PHKL_22855 was installed.

I am afraid the DLT80e is not supported on K220 server tduo to imcompatibility of bus & interface. Please advise.

Re: Can Surestore DLT80e (C5726A) be used on HP-UX?

I hope you will be able to see the 80e anyway. You've attached a LVD (LOW VOLTAGE Differential) device to a normal voltage interface card. I realy hope you did not blow up the 80e interface.
