its returning: #looksup= 1

thats whats really troubles me that under the boot i can see that the box cannt find its HOSTNAME maybe there is missing somthing else ?

my host files look like this
127.0.0.1 localhost loopback
127.0.0.1 uxpc

i have a resolv.conf files to

OUTPUT for NAME: no address available for name
OUTPUT for IP-ADDRESS: no address available

thats not looking good for me ?

Put the uxpc on the line with the localhost, if you have no other IP that names this machine.

If you do have /etc/resolv.conf, please mv it to another name.

Besides, no point for this, please. You should not give 8 or above until the problem has been solved. 8 produces a bunny and seeing a thread with a bunny may keep other members from looking into the thread, because they believe the problem has already been solved.

OK about the point
BUT i am very HAPPY now my box is running
you have do have 10points my problem is solved this way

setting up my hostsfile like this
127.0.0.1 localhost loopback
192.168.100.5 uxpc

and the nsswitch.conf like this
hosts file

set_parms hostname
uxpc

and then set_parms ip_address
192.168.100.5

and now CDE is running
