There is probably some software out there, but I couldn't find it.

There is gnome pilot this is started by gpilotd-control-applet from gui this in in fact the setup interface the deamon is then started.
I have not tested it as I dont have an ipaq
this can be dowloaded from the following site
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-pilot/2.0/
you can find more info on this topic by doing a serch in google under "gnome pilot linux"
