Config of sendmail for local mail only.

We are using sendmail 8.7.1 (can't upgrade)
with no DNS for mail from local accounts only.
The mail log gets flooded with messages
about domain name.
How can I config sendmail to prevent. this and only use the short name ?

Re: Config of sendmail for local mail only.

Try adding an alias to your hostname of . (trailing dot) in /etc/hosts.

eg for hostname fred
fred fred.

Then stop and restart sendmail with
/sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
/sbin/init.d/sendmail start

Re: Config of sendmail for local mail only.

Hi,

use ie. whithin /etc/mail/sendmail.cf:
Dj$w.hp.com

Within your /etc/hosts make aliases for your hosts like:
192.1.1.1 server server.hp.com
