Conversion to .bm

Hi all,
I'd like to convert a GIF (or png/bmp) image to .bm bitmap file for a backdrop. Is there any sw/tool available?

There is always GIMP available at

but getting it to run on hpux was a big hassle in the past. Now, since I use it under Linux, it runs like a champ and never needed to run it under HPUX for the past 7 years or so. It basically recognizes all file formats under the sun, although due to some licensing issues, you may need to install additional libraries to process certain file types. GIF was one of them as it was licensed by some entity like AOL or something. So, you may be required to jump through some hoops.
