Core dumps

Hi,
during a system shutdown there have been a lot of core files produced in the /var/adm/crash/ .
What should I do with this files?
Why are this files produced?
Thanks
Thomas

Re: Core dumps

Hi,

most of the time core files was generate when system panic or TOC , you can find relate event in /etc/shutdownlog
you can

1. send this cores to HP to reading for finding cause.
2. use q4 to analyse.

if you have contract , better choose number 1.

Re: Core dumps

at some stage your system has paniced, and upon rebooting is trying to save the panic dump. The previous answer is the way to go, but you may just want to do:
tail /etc/shutdownlog
to see what the system has logged for the panic.

Re: Core dumps

beware when these are created, they can take up a lot of space, and the next one you have that you may really need to get analyzed, wont have enough room to close out, if your not sure if you want to keep those put them to tape and get them off the system so you dont fill up a file system, and if you need it you can get a full core dump next time it happens.

Just my thoughts
