DLT tape drive on an N-Class
Hi All,
I am tar'ing files to a DLT and have noticed the maximum block size allowed (OS11.0)
is 64 - which seems a bit small.Does anyone know if there is a patch to increase block size to say, 512?
Thanks,
John.

Re: DLT tape drive on an N-Class
Hi John,
Take a look at this thread.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=464729
Link has been changed to the latest version of gnu tar.
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Gnu/tar-1.14/
Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan

Re: DLT tape drive on an N-Class
What type of DLT drive are you using ?
What level of patching do you have for SCSI and stape patches ?
The stape patches are where you are most likely to find a fix for something like this.
Finally, what commands are you using to write out to the DLT ?
Best regards,
Kent M. Ostby

Re: DLT tape drive on an N-Class
Thanks for replying Robert-Jan and Kent.
I am writing to a Quantum SDLT600 - which BTW
I can write to using 1024 and 512 block sizes from a Linux PC system so I know it works. The command I am currently using is:-
tar -cvbf 64 /dev/rmt/xx /ts28 which is at the moment tar'ing a 210Gb file system to tape.My latest stape patch is PHKL_29898 which I swinstalled last week to allow the writing of very larg files over 100Gb.
I will try to follow the link to the GNU site although I did try to follow one earlier from a thread by the Guru himself - Mr Stephenson but got page not found.
Regards,
John.
