DS2405 and HP-UX 11.31

Hi,
Is it possible to use an old DS2405 with a rx1600 and HP-UX 11.31. I can see it but I can't connect to the disk.

Thanks
Juergen

Re: DS2405 and HP-UX 11.31

Hi J├Г┬╝rgen,

isn't this the LUN 0 of a VA7410?

LUN 0 is usually never used for data!

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Shalom,

LUN0 is often if there is no disk presented mis-detected as a disk. It is not really a disk in this case it is the disk array itself, or the controller.

Re: DS2405 and HP-UX 11.31

Hi,

Yes and no. DS2405 was part of the VA but also usable as JBOD. The device was running on the same machine same configuration without a problem. Now I updated to 11.31 and it├в s no longer working. Any idea?

Re: DS2405 and HP-UX 11.31

Your ioscan looks to me like a VA as mentioned before.

The LUN 0 is normally a very small LUN (~ 10 .. 20 MB) and not used. Do you have secure manager in use?

An ioscan for a "pure" DS2405 would look different:

ctl 0 1/0/9/0/0.8.0.255.0.15.0 sctl CLAIMED DEVICE HP
A6255A
/dev/rscsi/c0t15d0

This is the controller device, disks are shown as disks only:

disk 3 1/0/9/0/0.8.0.255.0.3.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP
36.4GST336607FC
/dev/dsk/c0t3d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0

You should install commandview sdm version 1.09.03 to get more information.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: DS2405 and HP-UX 11.31

Hi, I don't use Secure Manager. I tried to format the device with JBODfmt -f
Result: com.hp.HpPanDev.SanDevice.DeviceException: Failed to open device:null

Re: DS2405 and HP-UX 11.31

If this is a VA (I think it is) the jbodfmt is the wrong command. Do you get some results from

# armdsp -i
# armdiscover
# armdsp -a

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: DS2405 and HP-UX 11.31

Hi,
I followed the procedure you sent me. But still the same issue.
# armdiscover
Failed to obtain remote database interface to host: localhost
# armdsp -i
Error logging in: TIMEOUT EXPIRED
Maybe a network issue.
