Datacenter event checklist - which app to use?

Hi guys,

We have 30 servers in the datacenter, all the servers in the samenetwork.Daily night shift engineer used to take disk space and eventviewer and status of the backup. For this he used to go to each server,is there any way to take this checklist in sitting one place without loging to servers.

Re: Datacenter event checklist - which app to use?

hi,

some suggestions.

disk space - HP openview OV, IBM Tivoli, etc, they cost.

event viewer - if the 30 servers, (all microsoft OS?) are in the same domain, the domain controller would be able to view the event log from these servers.

backup - what software r u using? most software should come with some notification which will inform of the backup status.

regards.
(p.s. time for u to do some points assigning, 3 out of 28 and counting.)

Well, you can do some scripting, on windows it's not very comfortable, but if you know unix scripting, you can install cygwin.

There are free programs for monitoring like Zabbix and Nagios. I recommend you to check them out.

Or you can use very basic and simple console for messages I made for myself:

It's still alpha version, but it works.

If you have a spare machine that could run linux then I would second the nagios recommendation (some expertise required).
If they are Compaq/HP proliant type machines then have a look at Insight Manager.
Windows 2000 "Computer Management" can be setup to look at remote machines as well as the local server.
