Debian on DL580 G5 with 4 Quad Processors

I have a problem on Debian Etch. Whenever I go beyond 2 quad core processors the system stops at either Brought up 16 CPUs or Brought up 12 CPUs depending on the number I have added.

I am using kernel linux-image-2.6.18-6-686-bigmem.

I have tried to compile my own kernel with the same results.

Re: Debian on DL580 G5 with 4 Quad Processors

FWIW I did a basic "Standard System" install of 4.0r2 using a netinst ISO burned to CD on a DL580G5 with a quartet of quads about two hours ago without incident. Perhaps I was lucky. It had 16 GB of RAM in it. I think mine was a 2.6.18-5 kernel though...

Do you see all of the CPUs or just 8?

Re: Debian on DL580 G5 with 4 Quad Processors

Just to update this thread.

I ran out of time to get the Debian running so I have to resort to CentOS 5.1.

I tried lenny and etch but CentOS went on without any difficulty.

Thanks for all the help.
