Deferred messages in sendmail

I'm getting log messages that read: Can't assign requested address. Is this a DNS issue?

Thanks!

Re: Deferred messages in sendmail

Sorry, forgot to mention that I'm running HP-UX 10.20 with sendmail 8.8.6.

Re: Deferred messages in sendmail

Looks like I may have my answer. One of the NT Notes servers ran out of disk space. The "assigned address" may have been a disk location. If anybody has any additional info on this error, please reply.

Re: Deferred messages in sendmail

Every once in a while the SMTP relay server taking all my HP-9000 mail takes a vacation. Basically it stops relaying mail. They can't seem to configure the exchange serers to let my boxes relay mail.

So here are some things that helps in diagnosis.
mailq

If there is something there, someone isn't accepting my messages. Since messaging was going through and stopped, chances are its not a sendmail.cf issue, though for first time mailers, that can be touchy, and DNS issues can contribute to the confusion.

Great way to see whats going on is this:

echo 'test' | /usr/sbin/sendmail -v -d8.99 -d38.99 yourname@yourbox.org

You get a ton of useful information, that support will want to see anyway.
