I am now preparing a document , which covers complete procedures for HP-UX system administrers who are working in a corporate data centre.
I am attaching the topics covered in this documentation.
Any of you have made such a documentation and ready to share the same? I need it for a system audit and I feel that it will take me a very long time if I start with ABCD.
I hope your inputs will be great help for me.
Thanks a Million in advance.

Re: Documentation Help
Errors
Based on the topics though, I thinks this might be a pretty good book to have around.
There are other more advanced topics such as recovery from a failed disk, instance renumber and such that you may wish to cover.
I have not created an integrated document of this type. What we have is a series of documents I created in my early admin days and improve over time. They have been moved to a web server internally and are searchable by keyword.
I applaud your effort and urge you to continue.

Re: Documentation Help
Most of the documents we prepare would be for our company's purposes and are considered company's confidential. You can get the technical details from docs.hp.com particularly this document may help you a lot in making your own documentation.
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/5990-8172/5990-8172.html
However, for Audit requirements, I don't believe you need to have detailed step-by-step procedures. If that is the case, all you need to do is to print the above systems administrators guide and present it to the auditors.
The documents should show what your site standards are going to be and how you would implement them. For ex., there are multiple ways of installing OS but your site may opt to use only 'ignite' servers. So your document should illustrate how you do it at your site. Converting to trusted systems is a general procedure. However, your site may elect to implement certain password restrictions like password expiry time=60, min. password length=8 chars etc., and that are to be documented. Similarly you may opt to have the same hardware configuration depending on the model. Your serviceguard standards, LVM naming conventions, certified hardware/software/third party etc., provide the feeds to your procedures.
I hope you understood what I meant.

Re: Documentation Help
Thanks for your response.
I have gone through this document many times when I started making the procedure, and I got some inputs also.
Basically I need a step by step procedure. Apart from making it for an audit purpose and throughing it out after that, I wud like to do something which will help my collegues in the site. I want this particular document to be helpful for a newcomer to pick up in a week or two.
I look for a general document which can be shared across.

SolutionI have got one document on SysAdmin frm forum itself..It have nicely writtent step by step procedure for important sysadm tasks.
Go thr' the attachment.
Also if you are really looking for documenting entire system admin task under one roof it would be better if you refer the book by Rafeeq Ur Rehman and pick some excerpts. That would be helpful.
Hope that helps.

Re: Documentation Help
Girish has provided a good document and if you go through the book suggested then you can easily port it for 11.xx.
Well also find attached doc on HPUX FAQ's that also gives you much details on carrying out major sysadmin tasks.
Hope that helps.
