Dual booting win2k pro and redhat 9 on 2 diff hard drives

I have two hard drives when i put the hd containing redhat as the primary hd and the hd with windows as the slave it auto detected the new hd with red hat but where it says the name of the hd it was a bunch of symbols and under the size it said "2.6 terabytes" but when i switched the hd's around it picked it up fine.
this is how the linux instillation went
Automatic partitioning
I unchecked hbd the hd containing windows
I installed grub on /dev/hda2
and left dos /dev/hdb unchecked
When i selected windows 2k from the grub menu it goes to a diff screen and says
Booting dos
Rootnoverify (hd1,01)
Chainloader +1
Then it just stays at that screen and does nothing
Step by step instructions would be appreciated

Rootnoverify (hd1,01) is not valid.
hd(1,0) would be secondary disk, first partition (hdb1). Is there that you have win ?
hd(1,1) would be secondary disk, second partition (hdb2).
Could you precise what you try to do exactly ?

It is best if you installed grub in the first disk mbr.

Re: Dual booting win2k pro and redhat 9 on 2 diff hard drives

This is my current drive order and how i installed Grub.
/dev/hda 6187 mb (red hat 9)
/dev/hdb 19092 mb (win2k pro)

"Boot Loader Configuration"
I checked Red Hat Linux /dev/hda2
Left Dos /dev/hdb1 unchecked

"Advanced boot loader Configuration"
Had a check /dev/hda/ Master boot Record (MBR)

I made a typo on my last msg "(hd1,01)"
It was marked as (hd1,0)

When the grub menu screen comes up i highlited Dos and hit "E"
I highlighted "rootnoverify (hd1,0)" and hit "E"
and edited the (hd1,0) to (hdb1,0) and got the error msg "Error 23: error while parsing number"
Then i tryed changing it to (hdb2,0) and got the same error msg

To install grub on the MBR would i go to "advanced boot loader Configuration" and check "/dev/hda Master Boot Record (MBR)" Right?

Not a grub expert, I use LILO ;-) One word of general advise. Make a backup copy of your MBR before overwriting it. It does not take up much space and can really save the day in case of problems. There should be in option in grub to
do this.

Can you show us your grub.conf, not what boxes are ticked in an interface not many of us know (me included).
One long-haired git at your service...
