Error in syslog.log

I have a large Oracle DB running on a Superdome under HP-UX 11.11. I am getting 'clusters' of the following error in the syslog.log:

Apr 15 07:30:39 vmunix: free_ioctl: can't send pkt: ssn=aba9e080 mp=517
16340 q=ab04dd80

I have removed the hostname for company privacy reasons. I can find no reference to this error anywhere. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Very difficult to suggest something with this error. First call the HP support.
Does the box crash? Do you have a core? Do you have any third party software relatif to network or security.
Obviously you could maybe update your network and streams patches.

Very interesting that you ask about third party network or security software. We are using a packet sniffer for intrusion detection, so yes to both. Are you suggesting that the packet sniffer is hampering network communications?

If the system has full function and there are no user complaints, there may be nothing that needs to be done.

This looks like a transient error probably provoked externally by network infrastructure or something like that.

While there are no system crashes or other dramatic system issues, we are getting user complaints. The timing of the messages is suspect. If I can directly relate this error message to a possible network issue, I can temporarily shut down the third party software to test the scenario. Is there a way to concretely relate the error message to a *possible* network issue?
