Re: Error while taking Oracle RMAN backup on Tape Drive.

Hi

Try

http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/02-nov/o62support.html

Understand the RMAN Error Stack

If you encounter errors while using RMAN, you will be presented with the RMAN error stack. When you're using an environment with multiple layers, it may not always be apparent where the problem is. For instance, the error may come from the operating system, the media management software, or RMAN itself. By understanding how to read the RMAN error stack, you can debug problems when they occur and limit your downtime. Below is an example of an Oracle9i Database Release 2 error stack and an explanation of what the stack says:

You are trying to backup directly to tape using RMAN.
You need MML API for that.
Is that installed? What kind of vendor are you using? veritas/tivoli/legato or what?

Re: Error while taking Oracle RMAN backup on Tape Drive.

Hi,

We do have OmniBack. Can I use this software
to take the backup through RMAN on Tape Drive??

Re: Error while taking Oracle RMAN backup on Tape Drive.

Make sure DP is properly linked with Oracle. I havent used DP in a while so I dont remember where the DP lib files are (/opt/omni/lib.. maybe). You should have a file called libobk_something_.sl that should be linked to $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libobk.sl. Also make sure that your
"'sbt_tape'parms 'ENV=OB2BARTYPE=..." confguration is correct.
