Excel - Trouble opening

On several computer: Upon opening some Excel files on the network, users receive "This program has performed an Illegal Operation...etc..." Choose Close/Ignore. Then, once you click ignore, the details show that the module referenced is an HP driver .dll file. All computers have one thing in common - they are connected to an HP 8150, NOT the same one. Files and computers have been scanned for viruses - none found. Also, if by chance the file is successfully opened, then it bombs out with the same error when tryng to print it. NOW, the problem is resolved if you switch the HP8150 to use HP LJ5 drivers...that is the only way to correct the problem thus far. Any suggestions? Please dont suggest ScanDisk,Defrag or file permissions, haha (common answers)..all the basics have been covered. It seems to be a conflict between Excel and the HP8150 driver(s). Is there a known problem. Oh, also the printer has been deleted and re-installed, with the latest drivers.
Thanks for the help.
