Frequent Core dumps on my oracle 8.1.7 on HP-UX 11 64bits
I am running Oracle 8.1.7 on HP-UX 11 64-bits. I see core files generated almost everyday on my system because of some process crash.
(see details below)
I really don't know what to do.
Anyone Please advise.
Thanks for you replies
Regards
Yogeeraj

Re: Frequent Core dumps on my oracle 8.1.7 on HP-UX 11 64bits
I have been running 8.1.7 on 11x for quite a while withiut problems. The first things I would check are:
1) required patches
Oracle suggests these but make sure that they are not superceded:
PHSS_21947 (ld(1) and linker tools cumulative patch)
PHNE_20316 (Cumulative STREAMS Patch)
PHKL_21392 (VxFS performance, hang, icache DPFs)
PHKL_22145 (signal, threads, spinlock, scheduler, IDS)
PHKL_22266 (LVM Cumulative Patch)
2) Make sure that you have tuned the kernel to the minumum suggested in the Installation Guide.
You will probably find more helpful information at http://suport.oracle.com.

Re: Frequent Core dumps on my oracle 8.1.7 on HP-UX 11 64bits
you have to relink Oracle every time you have installed patches for system libraries used by the Oracle runtime:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/relink
My guess is that you have installed Oracle earlier (and perhaps not re-linked at all) and hence your Oracle is using the old (and hence invalid) versions hard-linked into it...
Just my $0.02,
Wodisch

I think i will look in the direction that you are guiding me.
I will repost my observations later.
Any more observations will be most welcomed.
