Re: Garbled characters in forum responses.

Hi Jack,

Nope, I suspect these are ASCII codes generated by MS Word or are being misinterpreted by the forum. I think these would be bracket - either curly or angle - can't remember which.
But the point is that it's not you.

Rgds,
Jeff

Re: Garbled characters in forum responses.

That actually happened when the forums were migrated to HP-UX/Oracle from another environment. 91dec = 133octal, 93dec=135octal. A man ascii will then reveal that those are left and right square brackets, respectively.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Garbled characters in forum responses.

Historically, the forums have struggled with the handling of non-alphanumeric codes. If you have written (or even read) html code, you'll see the same codes as a method to represent the special characters. Normally, the html interpretation in the web browser will see the codes in the proper context and create the required character. Apparently there are some conversion problems with some postings. The problem doesn't seem to be consistant and based on the number of scripts in this forum, it seems to occur infrequently.

Re: Garbled characters in forum responses.

Hi Jack,

Clay and Bill hit the target. This is something we will have a fix for soon. I've been told by the lab that the reason has been identified, just need to code and test. Please hang in there.
