Glance reports wrong CPU-Count on RX6600 11iV3

Hi,

on our new RX6600 (with 2x Dualcore) Glance reports a wrong total of 8 CPUs, but in the CPU-List only CPU-IDs 0,2,4,6 are active.

I dont want to run into trouble with installations paid for the CPU# (like Oracle)

What can I do ?
Is this a known issue, or should I open a service-request ?

Re: Glance reports wrong CPU-Count on RX6600 11iV3

I don't know where glance takes this information from ... what does

/usr/contrib/bin/machinfo

tell you?

I know that EFI reports a number of 2 logical CPUs if CPU threads are turned off, if this is turned on there are 4 logical CPUs per module. But since you don't see them in ioscan, I guess there is no problem with licenses.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Glance reports wrong CPU-Count on RX6600 11iV3

Shalom,

This is just glance reporting both cores of a dual core as separate CPU's.

That is not wrong. I asked oracle at a conference in 2004 if a dual core counted as one or two CPU's in their license model.

Three times to my amazement and a crowd ready to lynch them, they replied a dual core CPU counts as two licenses under that model.

Hopefully they will back off that stupid, greedy ploy.

When you have 2x dual core, you should see this as 4 CPU's normally.
And for Oracle, this means you need 2 CPU-licenses.

I am not used to HP-UX 11i v3 (we are using v2 here). Could it be multithreading is on - this is new on v3 ? This creates 2 threads per CPU-core, so 8 threads in total. Maybe glance is having a glitch here ?

Well, it is not a problem , because 2 Dualcores count as 4 CPUs. (especially for Oracle)
