Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNIX!!!!
Happy B-day.
Still trying to work a way to Vegas to see you all. If not. There in spirit.
Unix I hardly knew ya. Then you made me get a new thing to do. Linux.

Thanks for sharing. Of course Unix has contributed to this too:

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNIX!!!!
Unix is pronounced as "U niks", in English: "Nothing for you"
We -used- to finish that sentence "...en wij VMS, anders hadden wij ook niks" (... and VMS for us or we would have nothing as well"
But especially today that sounds pretty harsh, as a lot (most??) of Engineering ataff "celebrate" their last working day.
... and all of us VMS bigots feverishly hope that the new people in Bangalore can achieve (and are allowed) the quality standards we are used to.
As for myself: I am currently training in Linux, so I guess shortly I will also become a member of the U*X family.
Proost.
Have one on me.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNIX!!!!
This was before I could really understand the versatility of UNIX. Then I dipped into dark days of DOS V 2.x then 3.X, did my time with windows 3.1, pathworks and no less than VAX-VMS V 5.x before I could transition to being a UNIX guy full-time in mid '90s and never looked back.
Happy 40th b-day to UNIX and hats of to all of you making it better by helping the less fortunate...
Who's got the cake now ?
UNIX because I majored in cryptology...
