SolutionI've taken a different approach to migration and the nice thing is it works with any OS.
If I have a system with a 40 GB disk drive and I want to move it to a 120 GB drive, I do this:
I stick the 120 GB drive in the system, get it configured and recognized.
Then I boot off a Windows 98/Me diskette to a dos prompt.
Then I fire up a Norton Ghost diskette.
I do entire disk duplication from the source to the target. Then I take out the original drive, taking great care not to damage it. I put the 120 GB in as Master on the first IDE or SCSI cable, and reconfigure the BIOS.
Then I boot.
I've done it with the following OS's
Linux 6.x thru 9.x
Windows 98, ME, 2000 NT, XP
It obviously will nt work with HP-UX.
I have yet to meet an OS that this technique does not work on.
I actually have been using Ghost to take DR images of my Linux systems. Its a great tool.
I'm experimenting with mondo for Linux, its supposed to be just like Ignite, but at this point question if its really ready for prime time.

Re: HD upgrade and data transfersb,& What do you use?
AS replied on your m$ thread, I do just as Steven does, using ghost, being very careful with the original HD up to the time I'm sure the new one is OK.
If it's on a 100% linux system, I use mondo, it works well, but I always use it to backup to network share, and restore from network to the new hard disk...
Hope it helps.

Re: HD upgrade and data transfersb,& What do you use?
Jerome, can you provide a procedure and boot disk for your mondo backup to a network share? I'm quite interested in that.
