HP DL320 G3 Adaptec SATA HostRaid ICH6R Driver for FC4

I need a FC4 linux driver so I can use the HW-RAID on a DL320 with Adaptec SATA HostRaid ICH6R.

I have been googling for a looong time now and all I can find is: "it isn't supported, use software RAID instead". That's crappy...
Why aren't there a FC4 driver?

Hello Goran,

There is not a driver for FC4 yet because Linux is slower to support hardware. Contrary to Mr. Gates whose company has $40 billion in the bank, Linux isn't some huge company with infinite resources.

I've gotten into trouble in the past with hardware that was ahead of the OS. The best thing to do is wait until the hardware is supported before you buy it.

Otherwise patience. SATA is in wide use and eventually RH/Fedora will support it.

Software raid is excellent. I've been using it for years and its saved my posterior a number of times. You don't max out performance, but its very,very reliable.

Ok, I'll probably go for the software RAID then. It's the extra performance hit with SW RAID that I was worried about...but I'll have to live with that :)
