HP Ethernet Pass-Thru Module in Bay 3 C Class 7000 Enclosue
The Quick Specs for interconnects states:
>Interconnect bays 1,2,3,4 are reserved for Ethernet.
Fibre Channel, InfiniBand or other Interconnects must be placed in bays 5 & 6 or 7 & 8..Then it says...
NOTE: HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclosure:
Embedded NIC Port 1 from each server (Server A and Server B) is mapped to Interconnect bays 1 and 2 which support only
Ethernet devices
Embedded NIC Port 2 from each server (Server A and Server B) is mapped to Interconnect bays 3 & 4 which support only
Ethernet devices in configurations using the BL2x220
Any idea?

Re: HP Ethernet Pass-Thru Module in Bay 3 C Class 7000 Enclosue
Embedded Ethernet Port 1 maps to IC Bay 1.
Embedded Ethernet Port 2 maps to IC Bay 2.
As far as I know, only IC bays 1 & 2 are exclusively reserved for Ethernet (because of the hard mapping of Onboard NICs).
IC bays 3 and 4 are mapped to whatever type of card is installed on Mezz slot 1. If that card is NIC's then 3 & 4 need to be Ethernet modules, however if the card on Mezz 1 is an HBA, then IC 3 & 4 need to be FC modules.
The mappings to IC bays 5, 6, 7 & 8 are a little more complicated, however the modules in these bays will be determined by the types of cards on Mezz Slots 2 (and 3 if you have full height blades).
To return to your question. I dont think that IC bays 3 and 4 are reserved for Ethernet. The modules required in 3 & 4 are wholly determined by the type of card on Mezz slot 1.

IC 3 and 4, are mostly used for SAN interconnects, or the SAS switches.
In the installations, that I see.

Re: HP Ethernet Pass-Thru Module in Bay 3 C Class 7000 Enclosue
The mapping must be different, since you have twice as many system boards.
But still a you can put ethernet modules in bay 5 - 8, and it will work with, and you must put a NIC mezz card in mezz slot 2
How many NIC's do you need on the 465 and 685?
Becaurse if you got 2x220's and you got any ethernet solution in IC bays 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Then the embedded nic's on the 465 and 865 still also use IC bay 1 and 2.
And you can put NIC mezz cards in mezz slot 1, and have 2 or 4 NIC ports more.
Rules are quite simple:
Half hight servers (2x... exceptet)
Embedded NIC 2 port
Port 1 to IC 1
Port 2 to IC 2
Mezz Slot 1
Port 1 to IC 3
Port 2 to IC 4
Mezz Slot 2
Port 1 to IC 5
Port 2 to IC 6
Port 3 to IC 7
Port 4 to IC 8
Full hight servers
Embedded NIC 4 port
Port 1 to IC 1
Port 2 to IC 2
Port 3 to IC 1
Port 4 to IC 2
Mezz slot 1
Port 1 to IC 3
Port 2 to IC 4
Port 3 to IC 3
Port 4 to IC 4
Mezz Slot 2
Port 1 to IC 5
Port 2 to IC 6
Port 3 to IC 7
Port 4 to IC 8
Mezz Slot 3
It has multible functions
But if I remember correctly
You can put a 4 port NIC mezz in it
and they will also be routet to IC bays 5 - 8.

Regarding your question: It should work providing that you put dual port ethernet card on Mezz slot 2.
