I am using Madrake Linux 8.0, with an HP Pavillion 7770.
The computer is fitted with a PCI modem, an MSP 3880, (the Windoze driver installed in the modems section of control panel is 'MSP3880-W56k Modem') Is this a Winmodem?
There are a couple of manufacturers which list this modem as manufactured by them, (by model number) but does anyone know if there is a linux driver available? Is this the only HP desktop machine with this modem installed?
Incidentally, this is the only component of the computer which was not seamlessly and automatically supported by the Mandrake distribution.
Thanks

Solution
That's apparently an Aztech product. Try this URL:
http://www.aztech.com/driver/modem_msp3880.htm
I don't believe that ANY "Winmodems" are supported under Linux since they depend on some of the DLL's in the OS to do some of the digital signal processing for them.
HTH,
Paul

Re: HP Pavilion 7770 / MSP 3880-W PCI 56k modem / Linux
Have a look at www.linmodems.org. It's a comprehensive resource site for Winmodems on Linux (and modems in general). There are Linux drivers for some Winmodems, notably those based on Lucent chipsets.
