HP Pavilion XL 768 upgrade from Win Me to XP

After many crashes and freezing tasks, I decided to upgrade my HP Pavilion XL 768 from Windows Me to Windows XP (in between, I tried to upgrade to Win 2000 but it didn't work).
In order to do that, I had to reformat the hard disk in NTFS.
Now, I can't read the recovery discs that came with my PC (it says that it can only run with an HP Pavilion... I guess it also means with Windows Me and/or FAT...).
How can I get some of the software that came with my PC, such as WinDVD, CD Easy Creator or the fax ???

There is some DVD software for your 768 at:

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareList.jhtml?reg=&cc=&prodId=hppavilion22690&lc=en&softitem=Microsoft%20Windows%20XP&sw_lang=en

There is also a modem driver for the German version of the 768 which would probably work for yours and have the fax software at:

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareList.jhtml?reg=&cc=&prodId=hppavilion28148&lc=en&softitem=Microsoft%20Windows%20XP&sw_lang=en

Have you tried looking at the recovery disks with Explorer? Seems like the files should be there tho they may be compressed.

You may be able to get equivalent software at www.shareware.com
or www.winsite.com

Yes, I can read recovery disks with explorer but there is nothing usable (files unknown to me or error messages when I try to run them).
I'll check the links this week-end.
Thanks,

Catherine
