HP Tech Forum 2007 - Call for Papers

I just noticed this on the HP Tech Forum web site.

The Call for Papers for the HP Technology Forum 2007 is now open.

You have until Feb. 15, 2007 to submit a proposal. This deadline is for the proposal ONLY, you do NOT have to have the paper completed at this point.

Patrick,

Thanks. I had looked a couple of days ago, and didn't see it.

Now, what topics do people want to hear?

Re: HP Tech Forum 2007 - Call for Papers

The deadline is correct. I sent a message to their website and the answer they gave me was the same.

Be forwarned, they will not give you a long time from acceptance to paper submission.

Now I have to decide if I want to submit a paper and fly 17 hours each way if accepted.

Input from the peanut gallery is welcome.

:-)

Re: HP Tech Forum 2007 - Call for Papers

hello guys.

Since I have never gone to one I must ask.

Do I need to contact my HP representative to obtain passes for this HP Technology Forum 2007 or can I just show up to the event.

Re: HP Tech Forum 2007 - Call for Papers

As far as I know registration information has not been released yet. It is a conference that you must PAY for. Keep an eye on the web site above for registration information and pricing.

Re: HP Tech Forum 2007 - Call for Papers

Ohhh....If you insist Rita!!!!

This is the exact abstract I submitted.

Using unknown passwords in UNIX administration

Abstract:

This session will discuss ways to use passwords that no one knows, hence unknown passwords, to aid in the security of your HP-UX or Linux system, while still allowing administrators the access they need to manage the applications and system. This can be of benefit if you are audited for compliance with things like HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley.

This session will cover ways to automatically create a unique, and unknown to any administrator or user, password and apply it to any user id on your system, even root.

Sudo is used to grant access to the ids with unknown passwords. Sudo (superuser do) is an open source tool designed to allow a user to run commands as another user, such as root, without knowing that users password. Participants will learn how to set up sudo to allow, and log, access to the ids with unknown passwords.

Examples of the following will be discussed during the session: the script used to generate unknown passwords; the scripts used to automatically change passwords; the cron jobs used to schedule the password changes; the sudo configuration file, sudoers.

The presenter will discuss how this solution has been implemented in his HP-UX and Linux server environment.

This session is intended for HP-UX and Linux system administrators.

Patrick that sounds wonderful...sign me up !

OKay...now let me twist John & Stephen's arms a bit.....Just curious about what subjects they're looking to present. And wonder if Clay is going to see about presenting this year ? He did such a great job last year - I really enjoyed it.
