HP-UX 11.11 POP3 Mail Server

I need to setup and configure a pop3 email server on an HP-UX 11.11 machine. Is there a "standard" pop3 email server for HP-UX? Thanks in advance for your time.

Hi,

You can download qpopper from the following site.

http://hpux.ee.ualberta.ca/hppd/hpux/Networking/Mail/qpopper-4.0.4/

I don't think there is any pop3 server recommended by HP.

There is a freebie called qpopper. Have a look here:

Re: HP-UX 11.11 POP3 Mail Server

I have used qpopper, but am more fond of Washington University IMAP which includes POP1, POP2, and POP3 daemons.
IMAP(basically pop4) has alot of support lacking in POP3 (so connect yourself with IMAP and the users you like at least).

Washington University IMAP and all it's subdaemons compiled very nicely with HP-ANSI/C. (cant say it works with the K&R standard).

If you only need POP3, then qpopper is very straight forward, and easy to configure. Just make sure you go through all the readme's in the distro.

Re: HP-UX 11.11 POP3 Mail Server

Do I need a pop3 server on my HP-UX box to enable my developers to pull their mail on servers internal mail server into their outlook mail on their wintel desktops?

Sounds like I do.

Thanks in advance for the reply.

If you need to use an email client such as Outlook, Netscape Mail, Eudura, etc.; you will need to install a POP3 server. The issue that I had was I thought and hoped HP would have had an "approved" POP3 server for their HP-UX platform, but it looks as though they don't.

Use qpopper. This is basically a standard in the UNIX and Linux world.

HP supplies qpopper:

http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPUXIEXP1111

Check out that page, it contains the Internet Express package which contains qpopper. You need 11i.
