HP-UX 11.11 and Fiber Channel Adapter

Torsten-, thank you very much!!! I've followed to your advice - I replaced FC-Adapter from one of the bottom slots to the most top - 12-st. Also I've found out, that on the FC-Adapter there it is written the following:
A6795A
FIBRE CHANNEL
2G/1G

FTRJ-8519E1B-2.5 (I don't know, what it is, maybe - model no is)
S/N: H121QQZ

Then I've turn on the system and I've catch out that "ioscan -nf" command has successfully found fibre channel adapter! That's great! The output is following:

Also, as Mark Nieuwboer advised, I re-installed special files in the devices directory, using "insf -e" command.

Now I have new device file - it is /dev/td0. "# file /dev/td0" command returned:
/dev/td0: character special (49/0)

Now there is other question - and how is it possible to mount disks from virtual array to system? "mount /dev/td0 /mnt/va7410" returned:
mount: /dev/td0 is an invalid operand

Hi Yuriry,

The fd0 device is of your lan.
ith fcsmutil /dev/fd0 you can get your mac-adress. on your virtueel array you must prounance this mac-adress and give this device some storage.
After this you run insf -e twice on your unix and than do an ioscan -fnCdisk. Now you should see your new disk.
then do a pvcreate
vgcreate
lvcreate
nefws
mount file system.

I assume the VA74100 is empty.
Now you need to connect your notebook to the serial line and start an emulation software (hyperterminal - speed 9600) to create a small LUN0. This enables every connected system to find the array.
Now you should install the configuration software on your HP-UX host. It is called commandview sdm. See this link:

the mac adress = N_Port Node World Wide Name = 0x50060b000012f7cb

I don't know accetly how to configurate the va7410. But when you configure a lun on this you should see the disk when you do an ioscan -fnCdisk the internal disk will show with something called HP in the name and devicepath 0/ please see for the configuration of va7410 the docs.

Is your array direct connected or do you use a FC switch. Make sure you have a link between the server and the array (watch the LEDs).

I still assume there is no data on your array and you want to do a fresh setup.

Connect your laptop to the serial line like menioned above.
You should see this prompt:

READY >

Now you can review the current settings by typing

READY > dsp -?

this will give you the help.

READY > dsp -L

will give you a list of LUNs. If a LUN 0 is there, you should now install commandview and manage the array from your HP-UX host.

The ioscan should look like these:

You should contact HP and get a new battery. This will speed up the array.

Now I see two LUNs, that I've just added, but I can't do anything. I executed "insf -e" (twice) and now there is two new disk-files available for me:

No one won't want work from the following commnds:

# vgcreate /dev/dsk/c4t0d0

Also, I tried to install CommandView SDM from depot "cvsdm_11_11_v10600.depot" by command:
# swinstall -s ./cvsdm_11_11_v10600.depot
(from local folder). But it failure: swinstall said:

ERROR: A Remote Procedure Call to a daemon has failed. Could not
start a management session for "HPUX:/". Make sure the host
is accessible from the network, and that its daemon, swagentd,
is running.

It is very strange because swagent is running and the network (and hosts) is available. So now I can't run command view SDM.

By the way, I received this HP-UX Server in "ready-to-use" state, but there is too many stranges (for example, swinstall work very strange). So I plan to reinstall operating system anew to be assured what and how there works. To tell the truth, I never before installed HP-UX.
