HP-UX 11/11i

I need to upgrade my OS from 10.20 to 11 so that I can use NIS+ centralised passwords with a Trusted version of HP-UX.
The workstations on my network are all B class (B180L).
I am confused by HP-UX 11 and HP-UX 11i. What is the difference? Any idea which I should be looking at? Where can I find the info?

Thanks in advance for your help

Re: HP-UX 11/11i

You can get all the info you need at www.docs.hp.com.

11.0 came out a few years ago now, it has been updated with the new version 11i, recently, which is basically 11.0 with a few improvements and some exta software added on install. You should be using 11i unless you have applications which arent certified on it yet. There is also the very new 11i v1.5 and 1.6 for itanium (Intel processors instead of HP) and Superdomes.

Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: HP-UX 11/11i

11i=11.11 for RISC systems

Why two names?

11.11 stands for 11.11.1918 in Europe, the day WW-I ended.

In Europe, at 11:11 a.m. on 11/11(November 11) everyone stops working and has a moment of silence.

To call the OS 11.11 in European lexicon is like calling it the operating system that stops working.

HP's marketing people didn't like that, so came 11i

the i for for Internet thing works pretty well for the marketing folks too.

HP-UX 11.00 is the prior release of the OS. If your hardware and apps can handle it 11.11 is where you want to be for RISC systems. I know nothing about Itanium.
