HP-UX 11 servwer freezes up

Can someone please tell me what could be the problem if my HP-UX 11 server hangs up after a period of two days, or just some information on where I should look for some problems.

Thanks in advance

Re: HP-UX 11 servwer freezes up

Hi

first i will look at the log files .

check the /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log to see if there error message over there .

also will do a ioscan to see if there is a hardware issue .

but if you cant see any eror in the log file i will advise you to config your coredump
the file is in :
/etc/rc.config.d/savecore
and do a TOC to the computer when he freeze and then you need to open a call in your response center to anal. the coredump .

What do you mean by TOC

Re: HP-UX 11 servwer freezes up

I think the logfile to look at is /var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog, since syslog only contains messages generated since the system has restarted. For messages before a restart, you need OLDsyslog.log

Re: HP-UX 11 servwer freezes up

Hi,
TOC = Transfer Of Control
It's a kind of reboot.
You can do this from the GSP (TC command).
Depending on the kind of server you might even
have a button for it on the back of the server.

Did you keep an eye on your memory / cpu usage ? It might be that the server locks up because of problems with those.

Re: HP-UX 11 servwer freezes up

TOC : It's done by pressing a small button somewhere on the back of your system. It's labeled "TOC".

TOC means "Transfer Of Control" : The kernel aborts whatever it was doing, dumps processor information and memeory contents to disk and restarts the system. This information can be sent to HP to analyze what the system was doing at the exact moment of the TOC.

I have already had a look at the syslog and OLDsyslog files but nothing in them.

Re: HP-UX 11 servwer freezes up

SAVECRASH : edit /etc/rc.config.d/savecrash and verify that the SAVECRASH variable is set to 1. That's all.

Success.
