HP-UX 11i V3 on IBM x455

Is it possible to install HP-UX 11i V3 or V2 on IBM xSeries 455 Server. If yes then please let me know the steps as I'm trying to install and it's not working. I bought this server as it had Itanium 2 processor and thought HP-UX should install fine on this.

Appreciate your help in sorting this out. Many thanks.

No, HP-UX is proprietary.  It will only run on HP's PA-RISC or Itanium chipsets.

The 11.31 Release Notes list the supported servers.  These only mention HP's servers.

Also I would think that a IBM x455 would be much too old for 11.31.

Shalom,

HP-UX will not run on an HP Proliant server. It will run on any Integrity server, which includes blade, rack and cell based systems.

If you require a PA-RISC system, these are no longer sold and you will need to go on the used market for these.

Re: HP-UX 11i V3 on IBM x455

HP-UX hardware support is a small universe.

The hardware (including CPU and chipset) must be known and supported by the OS. An Itanium chip is not enough!

Even older PA-RISC systems are no longer supported by 11.31, this means there is no support for the chipset, so it does not work at all.

I remember only 2 third party systems in the past (maybe 10 years ago) that runs with HP-UX because HP supports this due to special agreements (but I forgot the names).

As said, if you want something to play with, take a look at the used market, e.g. for small servers like rx1600, rx1620, rx2620, etc ...

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Also, you should know, that HP no longer offers patches for HP-UX without support contract.

And it's difficult (expensive) to get one for used hardware.
