an HP Integrity RX4640, what does the X mean.. and can it be supported on an RP or N class server ?

The first question is not clear. Do you mean that ignate image from rp4440 can be restored on rp5470 ? Or the OS version which runs on pr4440 can run on rp5470 ?
In RX4670 X means Itanium Processor, rpXXXX means PA-RISC

Can an o/s that is running on an RP4440, PA8900, be restored to an RP5470, with a lower PA. ie. PA8600

As far as I know, the answer is positive. Just verify that you see all built-in controllers on restored computer.

SolutionThe rp4440 must run HP-UX 11.11 or higher.
The rx4640 is Itanium based, both the x and the 6 in the third digit from the right indicate an Itanium based system, and must run HP-UX 11.23 or higher. HP-UX is forward binary compatible but not backward. Itanium systems can run most pa-risc binaries via the Aries Dynamic translator with some performance penalty compared, but pa-ric (rpX4X0) systems cannont run binaries for Itanium systems.
