HP Unix 11i v2 upgrade to HP unix 11i v3 with ORACLE 10g RAC & Service Gurad A.11.17.00

Hi,

We are planning to upgrade HP Unix 11iv2 to HP Unix 11iv3.

Server Model is rx6600. We are having two servers which are in ServiceGuard Cluster (A.11.17.00) with Oracle 10G RAC and NFS toolkit.

If anybody has done the upgradation with the above given environemnt?

What will be the steps & precaution has to be taken for the OS level upgaradation for the above environment?

Thanks and Regards,
Manoj K

The general consensus around here is to cold-install, rather than upgrade. If your current system is set up properly, with vg00 containing nothing but the root volume and all your data residing in other VGs, it's a simple matter to cold install a root VG, then vgimport all your data back.

Hi,

Pete's path seems good to me.

But be sure to install the recomended HP-UX 11i v3 pre-install patches as in Metalink Note 169706.1.

Shalom,

Stop the upgrade plan.

Do a cold install of HP-UX 11.31

Re-install all needed applications.

Take a full backup of entire system configuration using Ignite and data using tool of choice.

Why no upgrade? It fails, Oracle doesn't support upgrade-ux. Cold install is the way experienced systems administrators do it.

HI All,

Thanks for the reply.

WE have upgraded the OS with a minimum downtime (Less than 30 Minutes).

We have done the cold installation of OS in the servers one by one. Only OS and SG version has been upgraded, Oracle binary kept the same.
