Re: HP Unix 11iv3 march 2010 release updation on Rx2660
hi,
it was many times discussed on this forum,
you have 2 choices :
- make a ignite backup ( tape/net ) or DRD + data backup
1, check this step-by-step manual :
http://www.hpuxtips.es/?q=node/229
2, install 11.31 from scratch and install you app

Re: HP Unix 11iv3 march 2010 release updation on Rx2660
Philip,
Please check out the steps here to upgrade 11iv2 to 11iv3:
- Check that your system will run HP-UX 11i v3
- Verify firmware level, storage, drivers and I/O card support.
- Verify that your system meets HP-UX 11i v3 memory requirements.
- Confirm that your 3rd party application suppliers support their apps on HP-UX 11i v3
- Ensure there is enough free disk space for the update
- Cold-install or update your system to HP-UX 11i v3?
- Verify your cold install or update
- Post upgrade tasks. User creation, data migration, vg import. etc.

Practically, once all the checks , verifications are met you need to decide which method is best for your environment cold install or update-ux both works well for 11iv3, personally I feel good for cold install more and it gives a fresh look to the os, and do not transit the the old things from previous os. Also one can get root/usr/opt/tmp filesystems bigger as per 11iv3 requirement. Cold install can be done using the 11iv3 MCOE DVD media ( depending on the OE you will be using). For large update/install you can setup an ignite server, and boot using lan trigers the os install. Once os installed the vgs can be imported using agile addressing vgimport -N needs to be use. Make sure to check the mass storage compatibility matrix to determine the compatibility with the existing storage . And to check firmware and scsi compatibility with msv2v3check utility.

Raj.
