HP-Unix OS License Information

Hello Experts,

Just wanted to gather some information about HP-Unix OS license.

Is the license based on per processor? I mean If i would like to re-install the os will it need the new license or the existing license will work on it.

Current license info as below.

HP-UX mcmsdbl1 B.11.31 U ia64 3752286372 unlimited-user license

Jusr wanted to get a clear idea of HPUX licensing policy before we proceed further for the re-installation process.

Regards,
Syed

Re: HP-Unix OS License Information

What you see here (uname -a) is not a license but a unique software ID based on the servers hardware.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP-Unix OS License Information

Read about licenses:

http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/us/en/os/hpux11i-oe-software-licensing.html

These are (paper based) license to use (LTU).

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP-Unix OS License Information

Our model is   "ia64 hp server rx3600"

And as per the below infomration found at http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/us/en/os/hpux11i-oe-software-licensing.html

"HP-UX 11i software is licensed on a per-socket basis on the new HP Integrity family of servers (models BL8x0c i2, rx2800 i2, Superdome 2). HP-UX software on all other Integrity servers is still licensed on a per-core basis".

means we have license per-core basis?

Which command or file will give the accurate and complete information about the software license.

Re: HP-Unix OS License Information

As said, the license is paper based. You need to own a LTU in order to use the OS. The OS itself does not ask you for a license. Some software components are keyed, so you need a codeword in order to install. You should find this in your documentation.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
