HPLaserJet5L/Win 95 driver problem

Running Windows 95 on a 200MMX with 48Meg RAM. Downloaded the HP 5L driver (in
three files and unpacked as directed). Ran set up as mentioned in the .inf
file and the printer works. However, every time I boot up Windows treats it as
a new piece of hardware and wants to find the driver. The downloaded driver is
not recognised as suitable. Is there any way that I can stop Windows finding
the printer as a new piece of hardware every time I boot up.

Regards

Re: HPLaserJet5L/Win 95 driver problem

Sandy,

I've dealt with this problem using the following method:

1. Unpack the drivers to a local directory
2. Do not install the printer drivers and remove all printers generated
previously.
3. Restart the system.
4. When the system is starting up, it will auto detect the printer and try to
load the driver.
5. Since its probably looking for an *.inf file, point the install program at
the driver directory built in step 1.

Hope this helps you out.

Gerard
