HPUX OS Installation on HP J6000

Hello, I have a J6000 which requires an immediate OS re-installation. However, my HPUX OS  is built on a DVD but the J6000 drive is a CDROM. 

Please advise on how can I re-install this OS.

I'd be very surprised if a HP-UX OS that came on a DVD was even supported on an old J class workstation. What OS was the J6000 running and what version is on the DVD?

Do you have any other HP-UX systems in yout estate, you may be able to setup an Ignite server and do a network install, but that's a fair amount of work, and quite complex to configure...

If you need a DVD for the J6000, below are the part number for the drives. You might need to buy a drive and swap out the CD-ROM.

A5990-62023 - IDE CD-ROM drive - 32X CD-ROM read
A6055-62110 - IDE CD-RW drive - 4X CD-R write, 4X CD-RW rewrite, 24X CD-ROM read (11.00 and higher)
A8069-62001 - IDE DVD-ROM drive (Read only)
A8070-62001 - IDE DVD/CD-RW drive

Actually looks like the J6000 was a PA8700 system, which supports HP-UX11iv1 (11.11) - and I think some of the last releases of that OS did come on DVD. If the DVD you have states 11iv2 (11.23) or 11iv3 (11.31), then it will not install on your system anyway.

If it is an 11iv1 (11.11) DVD, then Jesse's advice is sound - get a 2nd hand DVD-ROM drive - if none of the models Jesse outlined are available you could just try a white-label IDE DVD-ROM drive - it might work (my C3000 workstation for example has a white label IDE CD-ROM drive in it and it works OK for installations).

The J6000 is PA8600 and supports HP-UX 10.20, 11.00, and 11.11 (11i).

Yes, in J6000 workstation you can install HP-UX versions 10.20, 11.0 and 11.11

The last standard patch bundle was realeased in Dec 2009 for 11.11

The HP-UX ver 10.20, 11.0 and 11.11 are no longer supported bye HPE.
