HW Raid1 on DL320 G5 with sles10

Hi everybody,

I'm currently installing Veritas Netbackup PureDisk 6.1 on a DL320 G5.

I have the embedded raid controller enabled and configured in the bios.
On startup, its show my logical volume as RAID1, with optimal status.
During the installtion of my os,
Kernel 2.6.16.21-0.25 SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10
the os doesn't recognize the raid1 volume. All i see are the two independable SATA disks.

So far, the only driver i found was one that only gives support for kernel version 2.6.16.21-0.8 SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10.

Software raid is not an option, due to many problems i have experienced in the passed with it.

Thank you...

Shalom,

The server has hardware raid.

The OS sees a single disk drive. No further configuration is required.

Translation: You are done.

Re: HW Raid1 on DL320 G5 with sles10

I'm sorry, maybe i didnt explain my problem well enough.

During the installation of the os, it does NOT see a single disk. ie, it doesn't detect the raid volume, but it sees two seperate disk.
/dev/sda and /dev/sdb

So i'm not done :) The os doesn't see the server hardware raid

Thanks anyway for the response

Yes, you are not done.

Sorry.

You are sure that you truly have a hardware raid 1 setup?

That is a feature that must be added to a DL320 G5. It is not the default.

If yes:

Boot the box, choose correct key to get into bios and set up the raid 1 mirror again. Alternative, you can boot the system off the smart start cd/dvd and do it from there.

Normally the OS doesn't get a choice here, but it could be the OS is the problem in which case you need a different for fixed OS.

I know that Red Hat and clones WILL by default recognize the raid 1 setup.

Re: HW Raid1 on DL320 G5 with sles10

Ye, i did all of the bove.
I'm 100% sure the raid is enabled.

The problem lies on the OS version.
I just cant seem to get a driver for my raid with support for Kernel 2.6.16.21-0.25 SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10

So if anyone could help me with this?

Also another version of the os isn't possible, because the os and the application are one build.

Your problem seems closely related to this thread-

The driver may work with the errata kernel if you force the install. I don't know if that can work with installing the OS on the raid volume using a driver diskette.
