SolutionThe CPU requirement will depend on which compression method you'll choose.
If you must create a mondorescue backup while your applications are running, be aware that the application files will not be all backed up at the same instant, but sequentially over time. This means when you restore from the mondorescue backup, the application files are likely to be out of sync with each other.
While you can certainly use a backup taken while the applications are running to recover the base system, you must find another way to restore your application data after that.

Re: Has someone used mondorescue?
then it should not be some big problems with running mondorescue while machine perform its usual job.
In case "big" directories /homes, /var/www, etc it could take a long time and processor load will mostly depend on compression type/where files are sent ( over network ) or locally saved

Re: Has someone used mondorescue?
I've used it.
It works pretty well when you have a spare disk in the local system to write the backup to.
It works well on a fast (1000BT) network to an NFS server that is fast.
Still, it should be used to back up the system, not massive amounts of application data.
It won't get a clean backup of an open oracle database, so exclude that stuff.

Re: Has someone used mondorescue?
As with any imager, sure there is impact, I run once a week on Saturday evenings when the system usage and possible performance impact is lower.
Takes about 30 minutes to create an image of a basic OEL install to an NFS mount.

Re: Has someone used mondorescue?
As with most dot zero releases, RHEL 5.0 was less than stable when installed in my labs in Jerusalem.
You would do better on many fronts to see if you can use RHN and update to RHEL 5, update 4.
