Hijack this just desserts

This thread is to reward all the people who routinely pour over others hijack reports.

I had to do this for a client recently, and MAN I wouldn't do that again for free.

So, post up a link to where you gave somebody hijack advice and get a 10-point bunny.
There have been Innumerable people who have helped me. Of course, I've managed to piss most of them off.

I actually enjoy screening HijackThis posts (after you do a few of them you start to recognize the good guys and the bad guys and it goes much faster) but I do hate it when I go to all the trouble and never hear back if it helped or not.

The first one is the hardest one. But when the "first echelon" spyware tools can't do the trick Hijack This can provide the additional insight needed.

Re: Hijack this just desserts

Hi Thomas,

In the following link, I have a procedure for removing spyware/adware/malware from infected PCs:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=876270

The key to HJT is to run it in win2k/XP Safe Mode, as my procedure indicates. This makes it much easier, because there is much less stuff to wade through, compared with Normal Mode.

One also needs to know which processes are legitimate. The only way to know this is through experience with the particular PC.
