How can i install Xerox 230 with jetadmin

Hi, i would like install a xerox Doc Center 230 LP on a D220 Server with jet admin. But when i would like declare it in jet-admin, it answer me:

Enter the network printer name or IP address (q - quit): CARPR126

!! No response from CARPR126 !!
... (trying to ping CARPR126)

The HP JetAdmin utility can ping the device. The problem may be:
* incorrect GET community name!
* it is not a network printer!
* other.

I'm sure of the IP address and the DNS Name. I've insert this address into the /etc/hosts file. But no better results ! !

Could you help me ?

Thanks for all ! !

Re: How can i install Xerox 230 with jetadmin

Hi,

you can use jetadmin only with HP Printerservers/cards. As the Xerox has a network card but no jetdirect card you can't use jetadmin.

Set this printer as an Network based printer without Jetadmin. As a remote printer name use "raw" or "lp". Check the Xerox manual for available printernames.

Hope this helps

Into the menu Add Remote Printer/Plooter:

Printer name:
Remote system name:
Remote printer name:

Where must i get the different info about the printer:

Name, name of the queue , raw or lp .

Thanks for all .

Re: How can i install Xerox 230 with jetadmin

When you add a remote printer, you must know 2 things about the printer: IP address (or resolvable hostname), and the printer's 'internal' name. There is no way to determine this name without reading the documentation from the manufacturer. The internal name might be prn or raw or text or something else. In SAM, the terminology is:

Printer Name: (the local name to be used with the lp command)

Remote System Name: (the remote printer's IP address or hostname)

Remote Printer Name: (the internal printer's name)

Remote Printer is on a BSD System: (Unless this is another HP-UX computer, always check this box)

The reason that there must be an internal name is that a print server may have many (dozens, hundreds) of printers attached so the server must told which printer to use. The Xerox printer is a special case...the network card is pretending to be a remote computer with one attached printer.
