How do Oracle ASM volumes do failover and load-balancing without PVLinks?
All:
We run HP-UX 11.23 with PVLinks. Since Oracle ASM volumes don't use LVM or PVLinks, how do they failover and load-balance?

Some information gleaned from a google search for "oracle asm load balancing":

Re: How do Oracle ASM volumes do failover and load-balancing without PVLinks?
Our 11.23 servers used HP's autopath/securepath for multipathing/failover of oracle ASM disks. In 11.31 the multipath functionality is built into the hpux mass storage stack, and works for the ASM disks.

What is 11.23 "autopath/securepath"? I've never heard of it (I'm a Storage guy)?

Re: How do Oracle ASM volumes do failover and load-balancing without PVLinks?
"autopath/securepath" was the multipath solution for hp-ux 11.11 and 11.23.
With this software it was also possible to use active/passive disk arrays with hp-ux.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How do Oracle ASM volumes do failover and load-balancing without PVLinks?
As Torsten stated. It is/was a sperately licensed product from HP. For their active-active arrays (eg XP storage), it was called autopath. For their active-passive arrays (earlier EVAs??) it was called securepath. Other storage vendors, such as EMC had a similar product for their arrays.

Gordon:
Can I use "autopath/securepath" with HP 3PAR Storage? Will it coexist with EMC PowerPath on same server?
