Hello,
In our environment system disk is highly fragmented on one server (OpenVMS ver 8.4, HP Integrity BL860c i2) and most of the highly fragmented files are TCPIP$TELNETSYM*.LOG
Just wanted to know if I restart the TELNETSYM will this create a new set of TCPIP$TELNETSYM*.LOG files.
So, I can delete all the old TCPIP$TELNETSYM*.LOG files and overcome this issue.
Or please suggest any other way to overcome this issue.
As this is critical production server, I can't play with it.
Everyday defrag is excuting with LEVEL=2, still no progress.
Volume script SYS$SYSDEVICE is ENABLED, LEVEL=2, device: SYS$SYSDEVICE
Most Fragmented File:
[SYS0.SYSEXE]TCPIP$TELNETSYM_HIGHGATE_INSTALL.LOG
[SYS0.SYSEXE]TCPIP$TELNETSYM_NM_PEMB.LOG
[SYS0.SYSEXE]TCPIP$TELNETSYM_SYSTEM_SUPPORT.LOG
[SYS0.SYSEXE]TCPIP$TELNETSYM_HIGHGATE_COMM.LOG
[SYS0.SYSEXE]TCPIP$TELNETSYM_PBX_INST_NPW.LOG
[SYS0.SYSEXE]TCPIP$TELNETSYM_DUNCANS_EPSON.LOG
Regards,
Barid

Re: How to create new new TCPIP$TELNETSYM_* files
Hi,
Not to be too cheeky, but did you try googling to find this answer?
It seems to me this topic is pretty well explained in the documentation, for the latest versions, it is currently at:
http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04622256
under chapter 25 "Setting Up and Managing TELNETSYM".
I was able to verify, if one does a STOP/QUE/RESET on the queue mentioned in a specific logfile name, one can then delete that logfile and restart the queue to create a new empty logfile.
