How to direct ORACLE to a specific network

HI,
We would like to install a 100-meg lan card onto our system and want to use this network instead of our current 10-meg card for out-bound network traffic to our Oracle Server.

Is there a configuration setting within the system for Oracle requests to use the 100-meg network?

Need more info.

are you REPLACING the 10 Mbps for the 100 Mbps card ( probably ).

if so, you do not have to do anything but install the card, and hopefully your backbone will handle 100 MB traffic ( do you ahve a hub or switch that this computer is connected to that handles 100 MBps ? ).

if the hostname is not changing, or IP address, there is nothing you need to do but replace the cards.

if this is not what you are trying to do, please send more info.

Are you planning to use both cards (and different IP-adresses). In this case you have to change the SqlNet configuration files (tnsnames.ora and listener.ora). And dont forget to do this on the clients too.

My appologies for the confustion, your later assumption is correct. The 100 MB card is in addition to the 10 MB card.

The system that is having the new NIC added is an Oracle client, not the Oracle server. Would tnsnames.ora and listener.ora still be changed on the client, since the Oracle server IP address is not being changed?

If you wanted to force it, the only thing I can think of is to either define a separate route to the network, or put the 100m on the primary for the network interface. Oracle doesn't have the option on the client side of specifying a specific network connector.

You might want to pose this question in networks on how to define the route to use a specific network adapter to go to a single computer or computers on the same subnet.

In that case, there is nothing really that you need to change on the client box besides making the 100 Mbps card your primary route. If you have DNS going, you can either give a new ip address to the 100 Mbps card or simply disable to 10 MBps card and get the same IP address on the 100 Mbps card.

What OS are we talking about here and why don't you simply take the 10 MBps card out ? What is the reason for having both there ? Usually you have two nic cards with the same throughput to achieve load balancing, but in this case, it would not be a good idea.

We are talking about an e3000 system that we want to give a dedicated NIC to our HP-UX Oracle server. So essentially we want to dedicate a NIC to the HP-UX Oracle server from e3000, but yet have access to Oracle from other clients. We may need to have a dedicated NIC in the Oracle server for the e3000 system, but wanted to get other opinions.
