I tried adding an entry in
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

when i ping the alias name it is pinging, but when i use the alias name from other machine to connect the same is not connecting. Iam getting the following error

If you're using a WINS server, you can enter static entries for the alias.

In DNS you can have multiple A records.

You can have a common lmhosts file that gets loaded at boot time through an include statement in the local lmhosts file.

Just a few ideas. :-)
