How to solve i8253 count too high resetting problem
Hi all
My laptop does not boot properly with error "i8253 count too high resetting " . This message keeps coming if waiting for longer time. My laptop is compaq presario 2100 with Athlon processor and Redhat linux 9 version. Is there anyway to solve this problem . I badly need pcmcia interface on linux.
Thanks for the help.
Sri.

Re: How to solve i8253 count too high resetting problem
I've not seen any fixes for this in the RH arena (i.e. errata kernels etc.), but I've seen posts of people using newer kernel revisions (in particular the 2.5.x experimental series) of which have fixed this.

Re: How to solve i8253 count too high resetting problem
.. and as usual, I was one search away from a less nasty answer:
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0211.0/1992.html
This details a patch against a 2.4.18 (and supposed to work on 19 and 20) kernel source. As to whether it will apply cleanly to the RH 2.4.20's is a different question, but I don't have a RH9 box to test it against.
How good are you at playing with kernels, patching and compiling? :)

Howto on Kernels
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO/index.html
From:

I have found that .0 releases of redhat sometimes have issues with kernel compiliation.
The guide's I've posted in if they work will help you get through what you need to do.
OT: Hey Stuart! I'm only 18 points off the leader board here. How you been?
