Hpux cold installation from 11.11 to 11.31

Hello All,
I have a rp3440 with 11.11 and i have to migrate to 11.31.I found that we need a cold installation if i want to go directly to 11.31, but i can┬┤t find that documentation.
do you know if the document http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-4043/5992-4043.pdf which explains cold-installation from 11.21 to 11.31 could will be the same than for 11.11 to 11.31? or does exists another document?

And if you have any kind of advice it will be appreciated.

Regards,
Emilio

Re: Hpux cold installation from 11.11 to 11.31

Cols installation always means starting from scratch. The installaer will overwrite any existing data on the boot disk.

Manual:

Hope this helps!

Hello Torsten,
So you recomend to jump first to 11.21 and then to 11.31 ?

Regards and Many Thanks.

Re: Hpux cold installation from 11.11 to 11.31

no.

11.21 was only for Itanium based servers and is out of support for years.

My understanding of "cold install" is not an upgrade ... it is a start from the beginning.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

hi Emilio,

it is pointless to go to 11.21 then to 11.31.

Just install 11.31

good luck!
kind regards

Emilio, what's the problem now?

Boot your server and stop at the boot prompt. Boot from the DVD and configure your settings.

To discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds.

Boot terminated.

BOot [PRI|ALT|] Boot from specified path
PAth [PRI|ALT] [] Display or modify a path
SEArch [DIsplay|IPL] [] Search for boot devices

SERvice menu Displays service commands

DIsplay Redisplay the current menu
HElp [|] Display help for menu or command
RESET Restart the system
----
Main Menu: Enter command or menu > bo 0/0/2/0.0

Interact with IPL (Y, N, or Cancel)?> n

Booting...

The data on your boot disks will be overwritten.

Hope this helps!

Hi,
Sorry Torsten you are right. i mistype 11.23(formally B.11.23) for 11.21.

Re: Hpux cold installation from 11.11 to 11.31

Emilio, I would NOT follow this path

11.11 -> 11.23 -> 11.31

Too much possible problems.

A "real" cold install would be a better start ...

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
