Huge points for a working script.

5 points for failures.

I need reports60_server that works during HP-UX runlevel init, as in boot time.

What is this?

the startup script for Oracle Internet Application Server's report server piece.

I know it needs X virtual frame buffer(xvfb) thats working.

My forms60_server script works only after system start, fails with no error message, no nothing on reboot. Attached it a copy of the script as modified to do some environment dumps.

Also attached are the environment and stty -a output for the user that owns the application, and my forms60_server script.

I may have to do multiple posts to push all this up.

Re: Huge points for a working script.

here is the environment dump I added to the top of the forms60_server script.

A real olympian, might be able to diff the files and figure out if the differences mean anything. I'm HP certified, but not that good yet.

That's hp certfied nut case btw.

Re: Huge points for a working script.

Hi Steven,

Try putting set -x in the beginning and see what it would generate.

Re: Huge points for a working script.

In /sbin/rc3.d

S950apache starts the httpd server sucessfully
S960forms starts the forms server successfully
S970reports starts the reports server, which seems to terminate shortly after startup. Logs indicates that it has however started.

Concerning the -x issue, where would I put that option????

Re: Huge points for a working script.

set -x

Just put it as the first executable line in the script.

Re: Huge points for a working script.

Steven,

Here is what I was talking about.

#!/bin/sh
## Startup script for Forms Server
## Refer to Install Doc for more detail on #each of these environment variables
set -x #<< here it goes
DISPLAY=10.1.11.60:10.0
export DISPLAY
TNS_ADMIN=$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
export TNS_ADMIN

Once you figured out the problem, you can take it out.

Re: Huge points for a working script.

The end of the reports60_server script is at issue now.

I added at Oracle's behest a ps -ef | grep for the process that is supposed to start, right after the nohup statement that is supposed to start the daemon.

Last line of script is exit 0

Strangely after adding the ps -ef and rebooting, the daemon starts.

Makes no sense at all.

Re: Huge points for a working script.

I'm not sure if you are exporting the enviroment variable somewhere else, but you are exporting your TNS_ADMIN variable without a valid ORACLE_HOME in your script. You might want to consider hardcoding this path to your tnsnames.ora file, and verifying that the tnsnames.ora file has the correct configuration for the report server. (original is found in $ORACLE_HOME/6iserver/network/admin)

Re: Huge points for a working script.

hi Steven,

Quite strange problem. Seems to be occurring on HP-UX platforms only.

I have observed that all the supplied "reports60_server" script contains the last line "exit 0". Have been working with 9iAS 1.0.2 patch 5a, patch 11 and patch 12.

Is the solution to replace exit 0 with exit 1 or just to remove that last line?

Re: Huge points for a working script.

don't know if it is the shell thing - but would try to be consistent (posix vs bourne)

Re: Huge points for a working script.

The consistency problem is all Oracles.

I am a posix man, through and through unless forced otherwise.

Software AG databases require korn and sometimes bourne.'

Oracle is inconsistent.

Apologies for the delay in awarding you your points guys.
