IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - ntoskrnl.exe

I am trying to reload a clean version of NT4 from the recovery CD on my HP Kayak XM 600.
However when NT4 trys to install it comes up with the following on the good old blue screen of death.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - ntoskrnl.exe

I have spoke to HP in the UK and they told me to follow...
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q240/1/39.ASP

however, i cannot install these as the system doesn't even boot!

I hope someone else has had this problem and can help.

Thanks,
Dave

Re: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - ntoskrnl.exe

The article indicates a mismatch for the network drivers. If this is your problem (in other words, you do get to the network card portion of the install), try installing without network card support, or download the network driver set from HP and use the "Have Disk" option to load those drivers instead of the ones on the CD.

If you aren't getting that far, are you attempting to recover the installation? Are you using a current ERD? Try installing a new version of NT onto the same system in a different directory (I use WINNT.911 as the directory for this ... a second bootable version of NT is always useful). Does that work?
